It’s always hard for new, up-and-coming musicians to break into popularity. The struggle is doubly real for indie artists, especially those who operate in a niche genre and don’t have label support. Enter Rohan – a vaporwave maestro from Mumbai – and Benny – a Brooklyn-based battle rapper. They had icy hot bars over groovy beats. They had an EP and singles ready to drop. They had enough self-awareness to know they didn’t want their lives to turn into a Portlandia sketch. We made promotional art, hyped up their Soundcloud and Spotify channels with well-placed ads, and got them written up in top music magazines. The rest came on its own.
